"Rocío Boliver's performance art draws from the dark and repressed, from topics including sexuality and violence, and from a profound feminist commitment against the oppression of women. Her artist name and to a certain degree alter ego – La Congelada de Uva (The Frozen Grape) – refers to a performance in which she masturbated with frozen grapes. In such breaches of taboo, she challenges the audience. Not only the audience, but also social mindsets that produce categories such as “normal”, “right”, “good” or even “beautiful”. This may be painful - for the artist who does not shy away from public self-harm, but unquestionably also for the audience. “The outsiders see you exposing yourself, stumbling, falling, and you spread adrenaline, the fear, the excitement, the palpitations […].” In their relentlessness and deliberate transgression of what may be moral or aesthetic common sense, the work and the artist touch on both physical and legal boundaries."
